This year brings some new possibilities for the Icelandic and Shetland lambs!
Icelandics: This year, we were not able to get a new import of frozen semen from Iceland, but I was able to dip into my stockpile of straws and some farm rams for breeding, thus giving me a terrific mix of AI sires and AI farm rams. This year, I will have lambs from horned AI sires Garpur, Grimur, and Raxi; from polled AI sires Bikar, Dulli, and Krapi; and from AI Leader sires Florgodi, Kjartan, Strumpur, Nikulas, Torfi, and Ungi. Additional substantial amounts of AI genetics were contributed by Blettur, Burkni, Drifandi, Gandur, Grabotni, Gramann, Jonas, Kveikur, and Salamon (horned); Aladin, Grafeldur, Hnaller, Höttur, Skrauti, and Vodvi (polled); Geri, Golsi, Joakim, Karl Philip, and Loftur (leader), represented in the breeding ewes and farm rams. I’m excited to see what these AI genetics will bring to the flock, and the new possibilities from new and mature farm sires!

Shetlands: This year I added several fine-fleeced sheep from Whispering Pines Farm to the Shetland ewe breeding line up. So this winter I bred a number of ewes, using a selection of three proven sires, each with different colors, patterns and markings. I’m looking for a great variety of colors and patterns, and there should have some exciting offspring!

HORNED ICELANDICS
Garpur (AI sire ) x Akra (F2 AI)
Garpur is heterozygous white, carrying spotting, but not moorit; Akra is a black-gray Gramann and Gandur grand-daughter, possibly carrying spotting and moorit.
F1 AI lambs will be 1/2 Garpur, 1/8 Gramann, 1/8 Gandur, 1/16 each Kani and Flotti (~88% AI)
Lambs will be white, black-gray or black, and may carry spotting and/or moorit.
Raxi (AI sire) x Huna (F1 AI)
Raxi is white, carrying badgerface and moorit but not spotting; Huna, my Grabotni daughter, is homozygous black-gray, carrying moorit and perhaps spotting.
F1 AI lambs will be 1/2 Raxi, 1/4 Grabotni, 3/64 Flotti; with some Aboti, Hnykill, Serker, Dalur, and Jokull (~82% AI).
Lambs will be white, carrying gray, or gray-badgerface in either black or moorit.
Raxi (AI sire) x Surtsey
Raxi is heterozygous badgerface, carrying moorit but not spotting; Surtsey is a black SGGM, carrying moorit and possibly spotting.
F1 AI lambs will be 1/2 Raxi, 1/8 Blettur, and 1/16+ Dropi, 1/32+ Grimur, 1/32 Skumur; with some Udi, Heli, Hunn, Bambi, Blaevar, Laekur, Fengur, Rektor, Flotti, Morro, Molur, Austri, Dalur, Vestri, Horvi, Pruni, Peili, Askur and Ljori (~85% AI).
Lambs will be white or badgerface or badgerface-SGGM in either black or moorit
Malmey (F2 AI) x Arna
Malmey, a Blettur grandson, is black-gray and carries moorit, and perhaps spotting; Arna is a black badger, carrying moorit and spotting.
F1 AI lambs will be 1/4 Blettur, 1/8+ Flotti, ~1/16 Bambi, Leifur, Kani, with some Aboti, (~69% AI).
Lambs may be black or moorit, and may be gray, badger, gray-badger or solid…and any of these may be spotted. Quite the possibilities!
Malmey (F2 AI) x Fláa (F1 AI)
Malmey, a Blettur grandson, is black-gray and carries moorit, and perhaps spotting; Fláa is my Burkni daughter, who is white, carrying solid, but probably not moorit or spotting.
Lambs will be 1/4 Burkni, 1/8 Blettur, 1/8 Drifandi and 1/32 each Bambi, Leifur, and Flotti; with some Morro Serkur, Peli, Ari, Kani, Moli, Plaivar, and Abotti. (~74% AI).
Lambs will be white or perhaps solid black or black-gray.
Malmey (F2 AI) x Nelly
Malmey, a Blettur grandson, is black-gray and carries moorit, and perhaps spotting; Nelly is a spotted black SGGM, carrying moorit.
Lambs will be 1/8 Blettur, 1/32 each Bambi, Leifur, and Flotti Raftur, Mango, Kveikur, Skumur, Grani; with some Gaddur, Grimur, Laekur, Ljori, Moli, Lodi, Bambi, Hunn, Ari, Kani, Kjalvar, Hnykill, Fengurt, Heli, Bambi, Austri, Stubber, Morro, Serkur, Peli, Ari, Plaivar and Flotti (~58% AI).
Lambs may be black or moorit, and will be solid, gray, SGGM or gray-SGGM.
Malmey (F2 AI) x Skjalda (F1 AI)
Malmey, a Blettur grandson, is black-gray and carries moorit, and perhaps spotting; Skjalda is my Jonas daughter, and is spotted black, also carrying moorit.
Lambs will be 1/4 Jonas, 1/8 Blettur, and 1/32+ each Bambi, Flotti and Leifur; with some Abotti, Ari, Haenger, Kani, Moli, Morro, Serkur, Peli, and Plaivar (~65% AI).
Lambs will be black or moorit, either solid or gray, and if not spotted, they must carry spotting.
POLLED ICELANDICS
Krapi (AI Sire) x Sota (F1 AI)
Krapi is heterozygous white carrying spotting, but not moorit; Sota is a black-gray badger Grafeldur daughter, carrying spotting and possibly moorit.
F1 AI lambs will be 1/2 Krapi, 1/4 Grafeldur, 1/32 Dalur, with some Jokull (80% AI).
Lambs will be white, black gray or black badger, and probably will not be spotted.
Bikar (AI Sire) x Moa (F2 AI)
Bikar is heterozygous gray, carrying spotting but not moorit; Moa is my black mouflon grand-daughter of both Aladin and Grafeldur who must carry spotting and perhaps moorit.
F1 AI lambs will be1/2 Bikar, 1/8 Grafeldur, 1/8 Aladin, 1/16 Vodvi with some Hynkill, Serker, Dalur and Jokull (81% AI).
Lambs will be gray, black, black mouflon, or gray mouflon, and may be spotted.
Viti (F2 AI) x Barna (F2 AI)
Viti, a Grafeldur grandson, is black mouflon, probably carrying neither moorit nor spotting; Barna is my moorit badger grand-daughter of Höttur and Skrauti who may carry spotting. Viti comes from a line with no recorded horned animals, yet is scurred.
Lambs will be 1/8 Höttur, 1/8 Skrauti, 1/8 Grafeldur, with some Hnykill, Serker, Dalur, and Jokull (~55% AI).
Lambs will be black solid, badger, badger-mouflon or mouflon, and must carry moorit.
ICELANDIC LEADERSHEEP (HORNED)
Florgodi (AI sire) x Kirkju (F1 AI)
Florgodi is spotted moorit badger, having a white blaze and socks; Kirkju is my black spotted Ungi daughter in the classic pattern, possibly carrying moorit.
F1 AI lambs will be 1/2 Florgodi, 1/4 Ungi, 1/8 Geri, 1/32 Tigull; with Biskup, Ari, land some Moli and Yeoman Blessa (~94% AI; ~94% Leadersheep genetics).
Lambs will be most likely have the classic classic leader markings, in black or moorit, and will be either solid or badger.
Nikulas (AI sire) x Presta (F2 AI)
Nikulas is black with classical Leader markings; Presta is my spotted black Karl Philip grand-daughter, possibly carrying moorit.
F1 AI lambs will be 1/2 Nikulas, 1/8 Karl Philip, 1/16 Blesi, and Joakim, ~1/32 Tigulli and Prestur; with Ari, Biskup, and some Moli and Yeoman Blessa (88% AI and ~88% Leadersheep genetics).
Lambs will be black or possibly moorit in the classic leader pattern.
Nikulas (AI sire) x Vestra (F1 AI)
Nikulas is black with classical Leader markings Vestra is spotted black Ungi daughter possibly carrying moorit.
F1 AI lambs will be 1/2 Nikulas, 1/4 Ungi, 1/8 Florgodi, 1/16 Geri; with Tigull, Biskup, Ari, and some Moli and Yeoman Blessa (~97% AI; ~97% Leadersheep genetics).

Strumpur (AI Sire) x Klaufa (F2 AI)
Strumpur is a dark moorit – described as the color of the Arctic fox with the classic blaze and socks markings; Klaufa, a Florgodi grand-daughter, is moorit-gray and must carry spotting.
F1 AI lambs will be 1/2 Strumpur, 1/8 Florgodi, 1/16 Geri, 1/32+ Flotti, with some Tigull, Aboti, Biskup, Ari, and Moli (78.5% AI; 72% Leader genetics).
Lambs will be solid moorit or moorit-gray; if not spotted, they must carry spotting.
Torfi (AI sire) x Brana (F2 AI)
Torfi is moorit badger, carrying spotting; Brana is my spotted moorit mouflon grand-daughter of Golsi.
F1 AI lambs will be 1/2 Torfi, 1/8 Golsi, 1/16 Karl Philip, ~1/32 Geri and Leifur; with Ari, Blesi, Biskup, Leifur, Hynkill, Bambi, and some Prestur, Tigull , Moli, Morro, and Yeoman Blessa. (85.5% AI and ~83.5% Leadersheep genetics).

I set up 3 breeding groups this year, all proven boys that give gorgeous lambs with stunning fleece. I’m expecting some real beauties in the spring!
** Bellwether Daal– a light gray ram who may carry moorit, son of Bellwether Lewis and Bellwether Mousa. I am looking for more beautiful gray lambs from this boy.
x High Bid Foula My first white pattern Shetland! There’s at least a 50% chance that the lambs will be white, but if not, solid black or black gray are possibilities. Or moorit may appear!
x Whispering Pines Perdita A fine-fleeced newcomer coming to Trinity Farm, a black gray katmoget with a wonderful personality. She must carry moorit. Lambs will be black or moorit, and may be gray, katmoget or solid pattern
** Bellwether Houney – a caped flecket katmoget yearling ram on his first outing. He’s the son of Bellwether Oiseval and Twin Springs Foula, so he must carry moorit. A very calm, respectful and friendly boy who answers to the name “Monkeyshine”.
x Bellwether Hamara A black yuglet sokket flecket smirslet (HST) girl with a beautiful kindly fleece, daughter of Bellwether Holm and Bellwether Mousa. Expecting a flashy lamb in solid or katmoget, black or moorit!
x Whispering Pines Neda Another fine-fleeced newcomer to the farm. Neda is fawn katmoget. Lambs will be katmoget or solid, in either black or moorit, and may be modified.
** Bellwether Skerry – a black krunet boy, with a very black and very crimpy fleece who must carry moorit. He’s the son of Bellwether Magnus, a stunning gray ram and Bellwether Rysa. A very friendly boy! His markings are subtle, so it will be exciting to see what lambs he produces!
x Bellwether Urie A striking gray yuglet flecket girl with an incredibly soft fleece, not surprising since she is the daughter of Bellwether Oiseval x Bellwether Fetlar. Lambs may be flashy, and could be black, gray, moorit, or musket.
x Bellwether Vaesey – A blettet black girl carrying moorit, daughter of Bellwether Soay and Bellwether Lewis. Lambs will be black or moorit.
x Whispering Pines Brienne of Torth Yet another fine-fleeced newcomer – Brienne is moorit smirslet. Lambs will be solid moorit or black, and will likely have some sort of facial markings.
